Carrie is a visual artist and art educator, and has had work displayed in short term exhibitions at The Smithsonian and The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Her artist practice is about highlighting and addressing gender norms, perfectionism and being a primary caregiver. She is a new(ish) Mom to a strong, smart 4-year old, a furmom to a doodle that’s more muppet than dog, and currently lives in Houston, Texas after 13 years in the Middle East and Canada. When she’s not playing board games with her hubby, she’s baking, reading, and making her own art.

Hi there, I wanted to take a minute to thank you SO much for participating in my public art project @primary_caregiver_art over on Instagram. I'm already thrilled and so excited by the quality of responses from people like yourself. When I open the responses looking for new contributions to put up on Instagram, my heart flutters. The emotion I feel and connect with from this truth telling is... everything. I'm determined to share it far and wide and bring your voice to this conversation. You asked to be updated about the project, which is why I'm writing this email. My plan is to share one of the community replies and a link to an article or resource that connects with the journey of caregiving. This is the response I really want to share with you today: Boy do I feel that! A relevant article that my niece shared with me talks about something called "The Rest Gap." They specifically bring up being a caregiver in relation to this idea that women need more sleep biologically but are often caregivers and thus actually get less sleep than their male partners.
